Assessment Against PPS 12 Distance Dispensing and PPS 13 Internet Pharmacy
Distance Dispensing and Internet Pharmacy are services provided by some pharmacies. These two Professional Practice Standards, which have been developed by the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, and when incorporated into the Quality Care Pharmacy Program as mandatory Standards in 2001. If more than two medicines per day are supplied by the relevant method of delivery, all of the Actions Required to meet the Standard must be met for QCPP Accreditation to be granted.
Furthermore, because supply by these two methods of delivery involves other parties which may necessarily need more guidance on meeting the Standards, the QCPP Policy Committee has developed specific QCPP Licensed Assessor Checklists for each Standard. These checklists are in themselves mandatory ie. all of the points mentioned in the checklists must be satisfied if a pharmacy is to be accredited.
The Checklists have been developed to enable pharmacies that provide a Distance Dispensing or Internet Pharmacy service to self-assess against the checklists before arranging an independent external assessment.
Pharmacies which are already accredited and which introduce a Distance Dispensing or Internet Pharmacy service following accreditation need to undergo a further independent external assessment against these two Standards in order to maintain their accreditation.
